Community Based Health Care Program

Health Outreaches

Kiwoko Hospital has continued to serve its mission through its Community Based Health Care (CBHC) Program that was started in 1988 to prevent common diseases/conditions such as; diarrhea, malaria, polio, TB, whooping cough, measles, worms and malnutrition; and to promote health.

Today, the CBHC Program focusses on immunization, antenatal care, postnatal care, adolescent health, mental health, family planning, nutrition education, water and sanitation hygiene promotion, HIV and general health education.

Immunization

Kiwoko hospital conducts immunization at community level (in addition to what is done at the facility) where children are immunized against diseases such as polio, tetanus, tuberculosis, measles, whooping cough and diphtheria.

In partnership with the Ugandan Ministry of Health, Kiwoko hospital also vaccinates 10-year old girls against cervical cancer. Community immunization happens every Monday to Friday at different sites within the area that we serve. Our VHTs (Village Health Teams) play a key role in mobilizing clients to attend these clinics.

Atenatal & Post Natal Clinic

We bring both antenatal and postnatal care services closer to women in the communities that we serve. During these community clinics, Kiwoko hospital provides services that include but are not limited to; TT vaccination, HIV testing, health education, general examination (anemia, blood pressure, weight, etc.).

After delivery, mothers are examined using the 666 technique and this examination is intended to find out if the new mother is recovering well.

Family Planning

Besides educating the community about the importance of family planning, Kiwoko hospital also provides pills and condoms to community members that attend its different family planning clinics.

In case one requests for a family planning method that requires theatre space such as tubal ligation, they are linked up with the team at the facility for care.

Community Health Education

In general, Kiwoko hospital is involved in educating the community about health issues related to; hygiene, sanitation, safe motherhood, HIV prevention, mental health and epilepsy, among others.
